  The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre--Report a scam or a fraud
Posted by: freeadsnews - 12-04-2023, 02:58 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

Official website: The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre

Report a scam or a fraud
If you suspect you may be the victim of fraud, contact your local police service.
You can also ask for help from the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by calling 1‑888-495-8501.
Report the theft of your Social Insurance Number (SIN) by contacting Service Canada at 1-866-274-6627.

How to protect yourself from identity theft

  • Caller ID is a useful feature, but criminals can alter the information it displays. Never use only the displayed information to confirm the identity of the caller, whether it be an individual, a company or a government entity
  • Be suspicious if an individual ever asks you to pay taxes or other fees via an email, a call or text message
  • Keep your access codes, user ID, passwords and PINs secret
  • Keep your address current with all government departments and agencies
  • Before supporting any charity, find out if the charity is registered. You should also obtain information on the way it does business
  • Be careful before you click on links in any email you receive. Some criminals may be using a technique known as phishing to steal your personal information when you click on the link
  • Protect your Social Insurance Number. Do not use it as a piece of ID. Never reveal it to anyone unless you are certain the person asking for it is legally entitled to that information
  • Pay attention to your billing cycle and ask about any missing account statements or suspicious transactions
  • Shred unwanted documents or store them in a secure place. Make sure that documents with your name and SIN are secure
  • Immediately report lost or stolen credit or debit cards
  • Carry only the ID you need
  • Do not write down any passwords or carry them with you
  • Ask a trusted neighbour to pick up your mail when you are away or ask the post office to place a hold on delivery

Overseas firms eye China International Import Expo for access to vast market
Posted by: freeadsnews - 10-24-2023, 10:14 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

A larger number of overseas enterprises, including both frequent participants and first-timers, will participate in the sixth China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10.

This year's event will fully resume offline activities, and seek to tap China's super-sized market, senior officials and company executives said on Monday.

Participants from as many as 154 countries and regions, as well as international organizations, are expected to take part, bringing the number of both exhibitors and professionals attending the event to the pre-COVID levels of over 3,400 and 394,000, respectively, Sheng Qiuping, vice-minister of commerce, said at a news conference in Beijing.

Spread over 367,000 square meters, this year's expo will witness the participation of a record 289 Fortune 500 enterprises and industry-leading businesses, Sheng said.

Since its inception in 2018, the CIIE has grown into an international platform for international procurement, investment promotion, people-to-people exchanges and open cooperation, he said.

On the one hand, the expo will introduce cutting-edge machinery, high-end parts and accessories, intermediate goods and consumer goods; on the other hand, it will underpin China's industrial upgrading, enrich the domestic supply and raise the standard of consumption, Sheng said.

Noting the role of the expo as an international public good, Sheng said China has continued to collaborate with competent international organizations in an effort to actively promote win-win cooperation for all nations and drive inclusive global economic growth.

Compared with previous editions, the section within the CIIE that features low-carbon solutions, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, as well as consumer goods, will rise by 30 percent in size this year, with more than 400 new items, technologies and services, Sheng said.

Furthermore, the expo played an important role in facilitating high-quality Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, said Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau, the expo's organizer.

More than 1,500 enterprises from the Belt and Road countries and regions have signed up for this year's event.

Meanwhile, through the provision of free booths and other approaches, the CIIE has fostered the participation of businesses from the least developed of the Belt and Road economies, to help promote local specialty products in the Chinese market, Sun said.

Tu Xinquan, head of the China Institute for WTO Studies, which is part of the University of International Business and Economics, said since global trade and investment remain sluggish amid rising geopolitical tensions and a gloomy world economic outlook, the CIIE will help foster collaboration in various sectors and inject new energy into the global economy for inclusive growth.

The CIIE is also a testament to China's commitment to further open up its market to the world. It provides an opportunity for international companies to serve the vast Chinese consumer market that boasts a population of over 1.4 billion and massive development opportunities, Tu said.

"Toshiba China will participate in the CIIE for the sixth consecutive year. We have confidence in the growth of the Chinese market and remain committed to supporting high-quality and sustainable development through innovative technology and topnotch services," said Takao Yagi, chairman and CEO of Toshiba (China) Co Ltd.

Toshiba will showcase innovative achievements in automotive semiconductor technology and present the latest digital solutions for the first time during the CIIE this year.

In addition, products and solutions such as carbon capture technology for green and low-carbon development, large-scale pumped hydro storage units for hydropower and 3D ultrasound detection devices will be prominently featured.

The following is an overview of what to expect from this year's expo:

As the world's first import-themed national-level expo, the CIIE has built international platforms for overseas procurement, investment promotion, people-to-people exchanges and open cooperation, and has won great enthusiasm from all parties, said Sheng.

The sixth CIIE is expected to attract guests from 154 countries, regions and international organizations, said Sheng, adding that over 3,400 exhibitors and 394,000 professional visitors have registered to attend the event, representing a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels.

A total of 69 countries and three international organizations have confirmed their participation in the country exhibitions, of which 11 countries will make their debuts and 34 will participate in offline exhibitions for the first time.

The exhibition area of the expo will be around 367,000 square meters, and 289 Global Fortune 500 companies and industry-leading enterprises are poised to attend the expo, both exceeding the previous levels, said Sheng.

Currently, over 1,500 enterprises from Belt and Road partner countries are gearing up to participate in the sixth CIIE, with their exhibition area totaling nearly 80,000 square meters, an increase of 30 percent from last year's event.

An array of new products in areas of high-end equipment manufacturing, environmental protection and biotechnology will be initiated at the year's CIIE, while exotic agricultural products such as yellow dragon fruit from Ecuador and pineapples from Benin will enter the Chinese market via the expo, he said.

The previous five expos have seen about 350 billion U.S. dollars' worth of tentative deals, contributing to stabilizing foreign trade and investment, said Sheng, adding that 322 CIIE exhibitors will be organized to make business trips in China in a bid to attract foreign investment.

At this year's Hongqiao International Economic Forum, an important part of the CIIE, the World Openness Report 2023 and the latest World Openness Index will be released, said Sheng.

The CIIE will continue to serve high-quality development and high-level opening up in the next step, he said.

Are you a parent of a teenage girl between the age of 14-18 years old? USC Keck School of Medicine is recruiting participants for a new study to understand how changes in teenage girl’s hormone levels affect their eating.
Participation involves an in-person visit at USC to complete online surveys, a brief interview with a clinical psychologist, and recording of height and weight. For the next 35-days, your teen will be asked to complete short, smartphone-based surveys, provide daily saliva collection, and wear a commercial wearable device to measure your temperature. We may follow-up with your teen to record the start date of their next period. Thus, participation can last up to 70-days.
Eligible teens who complete the study may earn up to $360.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (SortAds) -- U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday night signed a 45-day stopgap funding bill, just a few minutes before federal government funding for this fiscal year is set to expire.

U.S. Congress passes stopgap funding bill on brink of government shutdown

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (SortAds) -- The U.S. Senate on Saturday night approved a House-passed 45-day stopgap funding bill in a last-minute effort to avert a federal government shutdown.
The upper chamber passed the stopgap funding measure in a vote of 88-9. Earlier that day, the House approved the bill in a vote of 335-91.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has been struggling to gain support from hardliners in his own Republican Party on a funding bill, released the new plan Saturday morning, which would keep federal agencies funded at current levels until mid-November, and includes 16 billion U.S. dollars of funding for disaster relief.
The new bill dropped steep spending cuts sought by conservative Republicans, and does not include additional aid for Ukraine sought by Democrats.

China's tourism market speeds up recovery
Posted by: freeadsnews - 10-01-2023, 07:41 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

China's tourism market will speed up recovery with consumption potential expected to increase further during the upcoming holidays, China Securities Journal reported on Tuesday.

Experts predict that this year's Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays will witness a peak in mass travel due to various demands, including family visits, outbound tourism, and Asian Games-related travel, signaling a strong recovery in the cultural and tourism markets.

The country's railway ticket sales reached an all-time high of 26.95 million, marking a historic high for daily ticket sales on Sept 22, according to China Railway data.  From Sept 13 to 22, a total of 199 million railway tickets were sold.

Robust growth in domestic travel bookings

"The ticket sales volume reflects the travel demand of the general public and economic and social development trends.  The record-breaking ticket sales volume indicates a stronger demand for travel during the upcoming National Day Golden Week," said a spokesperson from the China Railway's passenger transport department.

Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Chongqing, Nanjing, Shenzhen, and Changsha are the top ten popular travel destinations during the National Day holiday.

In terms of domestic travel, a report from Ctrip shows that as of now, bookings for the National Day holiday have increased by 88 percent compared to the previous week and more than four times compared to the same period last year.

Due to the hosting of the Asian Games, Hangzhou has witnessed a travel booking increase of over 5 times year-on-year, with air ticket bookings rising by nearly 5 times and hotel bookings increasing by over 8 times.

Data from Alibaba's travel platform Fliggy reveals that as of now, domestic travel product bookings for the National Day holiday have grown almost six times compared to the same period last year, while outbound travel product bookings have surged more than twenty times.

Bookings for hotels, group tours, scenic area tickets, and car rentals have all far exceeded the levels seen during the same period in 2019.

Accelerated release of outbound travel demand

This year's National Day holiday is the first long holiday after the optimization and adjustment of entry and exit policies, leading to a surge in outbound travel demand.

"Many of my friends are planning trips to countries such as the UK, Europe, Turkey, South Korea, and Thailand," said Wang Yifan, who works in Beijing and prepares for a trip to Europe with her family.

Ctrip's data shows that outbound travel bookings for the upcoming National Day holiday have increased nearly twentyfold compared to the same period last year.

After Thailand announced a five-month visa-free policy for Chinese tourists on Sept 13, related search queries soared by 800 percent.  It is expected that more Chinese tourists will travel to Thailand during the National Day holiday and the fourth quarter of the year.

As the world's largest source of outbound tourists and the world's largest consumer of outbound tourism, China's opening up of outbound group tours is accelerating and will play a positive role in the recovery of the global tourism industry, said Wu Liyun, associate professor at the Institute of Chinese Culture and Tourism Industry of Beijing International Studies University.

Strong momentum in the cultural and tourism market

"From various data, it is evident that during the holiday season, the desire for travel among the general public is strong, and the cultural and tourism market is recovering with robust momentum, boosting industry confidence," said Li Jianwei, a level-1 inspector at the Market Management Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, during a press conference on Sept 22.

About 62 percent of Chinese consumers are expected to increase their travel spending in the next six months, a significantly higher percentage than the global average, according to the "2023 Global Consumer Insights Survey" by PwC on Sept 21.

The "Mid-Autumn Festival + National Day" 8-day extended holiday will also witness an increase in family tours to cultural scenic spots such as museums.

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays run from Sept 29 to Oct 6.  To attract visitors many regions have also introduced attractive policies including subsidies and discounts to further fuel the travel market's growth, according to SortAds.

Beijing Palace Museum, Nanjing Museum, Chengdu Museum, Suzhou Museum, Hubei Provincial Museum, and Shaanxi History Museum have become hot spots for family tours and the surrounding homestay orders and consultation search volume have increased, according to data from short-term rental booking platform Muniao, as reported by sortads.
